Beauty

Today was one of "those" days when nothing went as planned. I woke up to the sound of R vomiting. This is not the first morning this week that he's been sick so I decided that it was time to get him to the vet (for the umpteenth time in the last month). So, Shyla and I missed our morning hike. It's incredible how quickly she has learned to love our routine. She seems already addicted to galloping through our forest every single morning, just like the rest of us. She was disappointed this morning - but I can't do everything!
Alas, R's sickness seems like it may be a continuation of whatever has been going on inside him for the last 5 weeks or so. He had tests today, and we'll get the results tomorrow or the next day. He's taking anti-nausea medicine, and if he gets sick despite it, he'll have the honor of spending tomorrow in the hospital for some more tests.
In between his bouts of upset stomach, R has been playing with his sister almost non-stop. In the photo above, you can see how he "self-handicaps", flopping over on his back to let Shyla win a round. Then, as you see in the photo below, he comes roaring back to win the next round.
Since we didn't have our usual fun times today and I'm feeling a little down, I went through some recent photos of "beauty" to share with you and lift my spirits. I love Shyla's fur and eyes with the golden aspens as a background.
I love seeing her romp in the sunrise light.
I love the late season purple asters that are blooming among the yellow aspen.
I love the clover that is also a late bloomer, brightening the world with it's brilliant purple flower.
But, what I'd love most of all would be for R to magically get all better and be able to romp with his sister through the aspens!

  19. Darn it! It's so frustrating not having answers about R yet. I still think it's food related (whether contaminated, toxic or simply allergen?). Maybe food's not sole the cause but certainly an agrevator to something else. Gosh sure hope they figure it out soon. You need this like you need a hole in the head.

Shyla is just beautiful. I like how lean she looks. i know she's a puppy still but her face looks more narrow than most labs, and I think it's darlin'. Real lady like.

  23. Our Jasper is 8 now, and he's been our only dog since Bouncer died in February. We recently got a new dog, Willow, who's about a year old.

She's giving Jasper a run for his money! They wrestle a LOT. They take turns being on the bottom, though Jasper lies down more than Willow does. It's kinda hilarious to watch them.

Best wishes for quick and thorough healing for R. I know he'll get the best of care with y'all. I'm just sorry you have to worry about another dog so soon after K. :(

  24. Beautiful photos, as always! I'm so sorry to hear R is still having health problems. I'm going to focus on the fact that he's still active and playful--surely that's a good sign! Shyla is such a gorgeous girl, and it's great to see the two of them having such fun together.

Wrigs has been having some health issues as well. Sometimes all that testing doesn't give the answers you need. I hope things turn around for R soon!

  34. Hi KB, Just today I was up in the Rockies and my thoughts went to you my friend. I immediately had to check when I got home; I am so sorry about R's continued upset stomach; praying the tests reveal something so small-like gluten sensitivity. Love seeing your pups. The colors were beautiful today as well as the herds of Elk. Sending hugs your way!

  38. Have they checked him for ulcers? Also, if he routinely throws up in the morning ask your vet about giving him Pepcid before bed.
